WHO ARE THE WOLLONGONG WACKY WANDERERS?
Wollongong Wacky Wanderers are a group of people who have been taking a drive through regional NSW for the past nine years rasing funds for The Shepherd Centre. They take a social drive on an untimed navigational event for 3 days on registered roads of bitumen and dirt and navigate their way from one unknown destination to the next.
The focus is on fun and mateship. They enjoy the scenery, food, activities, and entertainment. The Wollongong Wacky Wanderers event is suited to groups of two or more.
The Shepherd Centres 2010 Wollongong Wacky Wanderers Take a Drive event is for anybody who loves to take a drive, experience new terrain and meet people who love a great cause raising money for The Shepherd Centre, giving a deaf child a voice.
Take a journey and become a Wacky Wanderer.
THE SHEPHERD CENTRE
The Shepherd Centre was founded in 1970 with the aim to give deaf children a voice. As a not for profit organisation that relies on the goodness of others to support us in providing an early intervention service to deaf and hearing imparied children 0-6 years of age to learn to listen to speak, to be able to become part of our hearing world.
With approximately 28% of funds coming from the government we need the remaining funds to come from businesses, local communities and individuals, through their participation in our fundraising activities, sponsoring a child, individiaul donations or participating in our events.
It costs $12,500 per child per year to enable each child and their family to begin school integrated into their hearing evironment. This year the Shepherd Centre has over 200 children enrolled in our programs and the numbers increase as screening improves and more families see ther benefits of teaching their deaf or hearing impaired child to listen to speak.
If this is a cause for you, join us in The Shepherd Centre's Drive led by the Wollongong Wacky Wanderers in a journey you will never forget and perhaps will want to take a drive again.
Participants in the Shepherd Centre's 2010 Wollongong Wacky Wanderers Take a Drive pay entry fee of $50 and each car is required to raise a further donation of $3950 (tax deductible) prior to the event. This includes entry for 4 people, accommodation, meals, special events and activities.
